ProData announces the upcoming release of DBU (Database Utility) 9.0

Omaha, Nebraska - May 2, 2010

ProData Computer Services, Inc., a developer of programmer utilities on the System i, announces the upcoming release of DBU 9.0, the newest version of its popular database utility. Features of this newest release include a plug-in for web-based DBU access via any web browser which allows developers to access DBU on any personal computer with a browser installed. The DBU/RDB, remote database access plug-in, is also enhanced for performance and connectivity improvements.

DBU 9.0 extends engine enhancements for the traditional green screen, graphical user interface and browser interface for continued quality performance. New features include:

  • Support for DBCS (Double Byte Character Set) for Chinese, Korean and Japanese character handling
  • Ability to execute DBUJRN in batch
  • Ability to execute Exit Programs for field-by-field data encryption or other data processing
  • Captures both Data Areas (DTAARA) and User Space modifications in Audit logs and Audit journals
  • Ability to perform searches on User Spaces
  • Allows user to walkthru wizard-based DBU access and security set-up

DBU 9.0 is V7R1 ready and is also compatible with i5/OS versions as early as V4R2. Using DBU 9.0, analysts can research or edit field contents, reactivate deleted records and include these records for the new search functions, and create database maintenance applications. Security can be tailored to user-profiles and audit trails can monitor file modifications. No matter whether the user chooses the traditional green-screen, the graphical interface or browser access, the performance & features of DBU provide full functionality.

“With this release of DBU, we continue to respond to our customer's needs from around the world and integrate the latest in technology. This makes DBU a ‘must have’ database tool for all System i shops, no matter where you are interface-wise.....be it green-screen, GUI or browser-based,” said Allen Hartley, owner of ProData.

DBU 9.0 is designed to complement other ProData productivity utilities for the System i and can be packaged with DBU Audit, DBU/RDB for remote DBU access, DBU/Web, RDB Connect for remote access within RPG applications and additional programmer tools offered by ProData.
